# .slam NFT

The .slam NFT is a collection of non-fungible tokens on the *Solana* blockchain that plays a fundamental role in the usage of [SLAMai platforms](https://docs.slamai.xyz/platforms) and governance of the [SLAMai DAO](https://docs.slamai.xyz/governance/slamai-dao). Collectively, .slam NFT holders represent the extensive [SLAMai](https://docs.slamai.xyz/welcome-to-slamai/mission-and-vision) community of innovators and end-users.

These NFTs also serve a broader purpose within the Solana ecosystem as they are minted as web3 domains under the [.slam TLD](https://alldomains.id/domains/slam) (which is owned and administered by the SLAMai DAO in partnership with [AllDomains](https://alldomains.id/)). 

As a web3 domain, .slam NFTs offer a unique, easy to remember and communicate address that can be used in place of a user's wallet address.

### Community Membership

As SLAMai is built to service the web3 industry at-large, it's critical that our membership layer is flexible to support a large and diverse group of members.

To that end, using domain NFTs as the base layer of community membership has three important benefits:

1. **Unlimited Supply** - Allows for continuous expansion of the ecosystem, unlike fixed-supply, community-pass NFT collections which can become very restrictive to new members.
2. **Low Cost** - Newly registered domain NFTs are affordable to any incoming member, with the registration price controlled by the SLAMai DAO.
3. **Expiration With Option to Renew** - Ensures that holders remain committed and engaged. Renewal fees are also affordable and controlled by the SLAMai DAO.
